As per our previous blogs on MRI, it is been to knowledge about an MRI being a Diagnostic tool useful in detection and diagnosis of many life-threatening diseases, including brain tumours, heart disease, and others. MRI scans helps in the diagnosis and treatment of harmful and potentially malignant conditions. Thus, the benefits of an MRI scan are lifesaving and are becoming exponential. However, there are continuous issues of MRI scan that have yet to be fully addressed. It is reported that more than 25% of the MRI patients, experiences claustrophobia during the scan and as a result of that it prevents most of the MRI scans from getting completed. This ends into the patient rescans which ultimately results in the loss of hospital revenue. The patient rescans are due to the patient movement during the MRI scan which produces the Motion artifacts in MRI images. Motion Artifacts Motion artifacts in common terms are blur images of the MRI scan that makes the radiologists and the referring physicians unable to interpret the MRI data of the patient. This occurs when the patient tends to move during the MRI scan, which is due to the patient anxiety or uncomfortable. In the event of Motion artifact, the radiologists always recommend for the repetition of the MRI scan. During the MRI scan the corrections of the motion artifacts can increase the scan time and can also increase the patient anxiety associated with the MRI scan, which indirectly affects scan time, hospital revenue and other resources associated with the scan. The technologist generally redoes the sequences in which the motion of the patient is detected, which results in the quality and accuracy of the scan. Sadly, the motion artifacts are too common problem for Imaging Department worldwide. THE SOLUTION In recent years, there have been multiple inventions attempting to aid the patient’s with anxiety or claustrophobia. Yet these new forms of mediations, like sedation, mock MRI, cognitive behavioural therapy are very protocol-based and do not take into consideration the patient’s needs. Perhaps, there is another solution to reduce the patient’s claustrophobia and calm the patient is the Patient Entertainment System. In addition, one of the most patient-driven and MRI-Driven solutions is the MRI Compatible Camera system. It makes the MRI scan process more effective because the Technician can monitor and communicate with the patient during the scan. MRI Compatible Camera system The MRI-compatible camera system is designed to be installed behind the MRI bore room wall and works in the MRI scan room without causing any artifacts in the MRI data. There is a console monitor which is used to view the patient and is placed inside the MRI console room. The camera is fully MRI compatible made up of a Non-magnetic pinhole and installed in a Non-magnetic RF shielding casing and fixtures. COMPONENTS
